IONA AND OTHER INDUSTRY LEADERS CO-AUTHOR SET OF SPECIFICATIONS TO ACCELERATE SOA IMPLEMENTATIONS

IONA Joins BEA, IBM, Oracle, SAP, Siebel, Sybase and Xcalia on Service Component Architecture Specification

DUBLIN, Ireland & WALTHAM, Mass November 30, 2005 – IONA® Technologies (NASDAQ: IONA), a world leader in high-performance integration solutions for mission-critical IT environments, today announced the companys participation as a co-author of the recently announced Service Component Architecture (SCA) specifications. IONA joins a group of industry-leading Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) proponents in an effort to create a new set of standards designed to better define the model for development and deployment of business applications comprised of services.

The specifications define a technology and language neutral component model that supports metadata for service authoring, composition and assembly. SCA metadata is run-time neutral, enabling SOA compatibility across a broad range of platforms. The metadata model fits well with tooling such as the SOA Tools Project at Eclipse for ease of program composition and runtime execution.

IONAs Global 2000 customers are looking to get a greater return on existing and future IT assets and investments, while significantly lowering their overall IT operating budgets, explained Eric Newcomer, Chief Technology Officer, IONA Technologies. Service orientation and the SCA specifications offer our customers the potential to achieve their objectives.

Moreover, IONAs involvement in SCA is a natural extension of our heritage in standards-based distributed computing and is an important part of our belief that a successful SOA cannot be tied to any one vendors technology, Newcomer further highlighted. The introduction of the SCA specifications is extremely complementary to IONAs role as the proposed leader of the Eclipse Foundations SOA Tooling Platform Project.
