IRONMAN France 2010 : Olivier Marceau en terrain connu à Nice.

Olivier Marceau (FRA-SUI) entre en lice pour lIronman France 2010. Après une première participation en 2009 où il a mené jusquà la course à pied, il revient, bien décidé à gravir la plus haute marche du podium. Le triathlète professionnel de 37 ans saguerrit de mois en mois sur les compétitions Longue Distance, fort dun riche palmarès en Courte Distance qui lui offre des atouts certains sur le format.

Né en 1973, Olivier Marceau tutoie
le haut des palmarès très tôt en devenant champion dEurope Junior et
4ème au Championnat du monde en 1992. Passé professionnel en 1993, il
obtient un premier titre national senior en 1995, une 5ème place au
Championnat dEurope puis devient champion du monde à Paris en 1996
(CD). Champion du monde à Perth (avril 2000) et 7ème au JO de Sydney
(septembre 2000), il réalise, à partir de 2001, dexcellents résultats
avec les circuits Europe et U.S sur XTerra (VTT).

Après les JO de Pékin en 2008, il découvre lIronman. 8ème en Afrique
du Sud pour une première expérience, il finit 5ème à Nice en 2009. «
L’année dernière c’était pour moi la découverte de l’épreuve niçoise
sur format Ironman, j’ai mené les 3/4 de la course, c’était très
agréable et j’en garde un très bon souvenir, même si mon marathon a été
décevant. » commente t-il.

En préparation à Majorque où « les parcours vélo sont assez vallonnés,
semblables à l’Arrière-Pays niçois et le climat favorable », le
triathlète reste confiant. « Pour cette année, j’espère refaire la même
partie natation/vélo et enfin arriver à passer sous les 3h au marathon
». Car Olivier Marceau envisage le podium pour lédition 2010 et ce,
malgré un plateau pro homme de grande qualité (Marcel Zamora, Axel
Zeebroek, Mike Aigroz, Frederik Van Lierde… ). « Pour battre Marcel
Zamora, il faudra poser le vélo avec une dizaine de minutes d’avance,
il va falloir cravacher dur à vélo [] ».

Pour la saison, le sportif lucide na toutefois quune ambition : se
faire plaisir ! « Je m’entraîne dur pour être le plus performant, mais
sans plaisir rien nest possible ».

Ironman France 2010 : Olivier Marceau on familiar ground at Nice.

Olivier Marceau (FRE-SWI) joins the Ironman France in 2010. After a
first appearance in 2009 when he led the race until the marathon, he is
returning, determined to get onto the highest step of the podium. The
37 years old professional triathlete has become hardened in Long
Distance competitions and strong in the Short Distance triathlons which
has given him an edge going into the race.

Born in 1973, Olivier Marceau was at the top of the ranking very early,
becoming European Champion Junior and 4th at the World Championship in
1992. He turned professional in 1993, won a first senior national title
in 1995, a 5th place at European Championship and then became world
champion in Paris in 1996 (SD). World Champion in Perth (April 2000)
and 7th at the Olympic Games in Sydney (September 2000), he has
obtained excellent results on the European and U.S. XTerra tours (ATV),
since 2001.

After the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008, he discovered Ironman. He
placed 8th at South Africa, which was his first Ironman experience, and
finished 5th in Nice in 2009. “Last year, it was the discovery of the
Nice race as a test format Ironman. I was in the lead for three
quarters of the race. It was very nice and I have very happy memories
of it, even if my marathon was disappointing.” he says.

Preparing himself in Majorca where “the bike course is quite hilly,
similar to the country side of Nice and a nice climate,” the triathlete
is confident. “For this year, I hope to repeat the same part swim /
bike and finally run 3 hours in the marathon.” Because Olivier Marceau
wants to get a place on the podium in 2010, despite a high quality pro
male field (Marcel Zamora, Axel Zeebroek, Mike Aigroz Frederik Van
Lierde …).To beat Marcel Zamora, I will have to get off the bike
about ten minutes earlier and double my efforts on bike”.

But the clear-sighted athlete has a only one ambition for the season :
to have fun! I train hard to be the most efficient, but nothing is
possible without pleasure.”
